This is the initial step of every civil engineering project. It determines where the plot is situated, the type of infrastructure is in place and the type of property it’s going to be utilized for.

Every large building constructed throughout history needed surveys of land right from the start. Therefore, the practice goes all the way to around the beginning of human history.

Surveying is also how the great topographers of earlier times created the cartographies of every continent that the ones we have today. A great example of this would be to look at that of the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India that took over 70 years to complete.

Theodolite is a crucial instrument for surveying. It determines angles between the points. Engineers can then figure out the location of these points through trigonometry. Modern theodolites are known as total stations, equipped with computers that record and calculate the information quickly.

There may have been technicians of a company for land surveys peering into a bizarre-looking telescope. This is a complete station! So, land surveying is an intriguing process and it’s not as scary. These are not brand new facts.
