Getting the top Google rankings is no easy feat by any means. It takes not only the technical know how, but also patience and diligence to earn these coveted search engine rankings. So how does one get their site to top?
Well, Google ranks pages based on their relevancy, usefulness and quality. This means that the top result is going to be the most relevant, useful answer to a search term. Simple, right?
In theory, yes, but practically speaking, earning the top Google rankings is a bit trickier. You see, the search engine king uses incredibly complex mathematical algorithms to determine what sites are the most useful and relevant. These algorithms account for over 200 factors, and nobody outside of the company knows for sure what they are.
However, through research , testing and the experience of trial and error, many SEO experts have determined what the most important Google rankings’ factors are. Most would agree that this list includes: usage of keywords, sites’ structure, sites’ speed, time spent on site, age of the site, and the amount and quality of inbound links.
Thusly, if a website’s rank rises or falls, it could be because one of these factors was lacking. Also, it could be because another page cropped up that compared better, and effectively took the other page’s Google rankings. For example, the fifth ranked page for “how to make a pizza” was cited by over a dozen new, high quality articles over the course of a few days. It might then rise up a few rankings.
There isn’t one single fool-proof method of getting the best Google rankings, and that’s okay. Search engines want to deliver their end users the best results. In order to earn the top spot, a website has to be worthy of it. It has to be relevant, high quality and useful. While there are definitely some nitty gritty, technical ways to improve search engine rankings, so long as a site strives to do its best, it’ll rank well.
